Aircraft Hangar: Fire Damage Reinstatement - Southend, Essex

We were appointed as lead designers and project managers for the reinstatment of a 20,000 sq.ft aircraft hangar following extensive fire damage in 2017.

The original building was pre-war portal framed with corrugated a double skin steel wall and roof cladding complete with sliding slab door and tail dock roller shutter. It is of sufficient size to accommodate the A320 Airbus.

Following the fire our client took the opportunity to consider offsetting the cost of reconstructing obsolete internal accommodation against an enlarged hangar to accommodate the new generation A321 Airbus and support the development of London Southend Airport. The project has been phased with pre demolition activity, demolition works, onsite enabling including reconstruction of party wall separating the hangar from and adjoining warehouse and construction phase for the redevelopment of the site, which is anticipated to be a 52 week programme. We have been appointed as principle designer and contract administrator to ensure the proposed works satisfy Planning legislation and Building Regulation approval whilst delivering value for money with works delivered to programme dates as stipulated within the contract particulars.
